Situated to the east of Preston, Lancashire, UK, and east of the M6 Jcn 31 at grid ref SD585305, Brockholes Wetland is formally a sand and gravel extraction site known to county birders as Brockholes Quarry. The site has been well watched and the birdlife meticulously documented by a small number of birders since August 1998. In late December 2006, the Lancashire Wildlife Trust sucessfully purchased the site, with the intent to create a flagship wetland nature reserve. The intent of this site is to highlight the wealth of bird and other wildlife for which the site has become reknowned in a county context. |
